The biggest problem with dentists using Twitter is the way they use Twitter.
They usually only post links to their own website, or simply say something like “Check us out if you need a dentist”
Social networking online is just like regular networking. You can’t walk into your local Chamber Of Commerce meeting and say: HEY, BECOME MY PATIENT! and make it work. You have to provide something in return.
With all that being said, Twitter is not a stand alone marketing method, but it can help you create a better bond with your local (yes you can find local people easily) market, as well as connect with your current patients. Don’t think that you won’t find patients there either.
New patients are abundant on Twitter, but if you start with your sales message, you won’t find many that will be interested.
Remember, “It’s hard to shake someone’s hand when you are reaching for their wallet.”
For more info, you should check out http://TwitterForDentists.com Which is a 6 video series on how to best use Twitter in your practice.
Realize that Online Social Networking should not be confused with Online Patient Getting.
