Mary,

I believe there are about 1000 or so dentists on Twitter, and many others, like myself, who are in related industries. The topics that each dentist discusses is different depending on who you interact with. There are quite a few technology discussing dentists, and even some dental companies out there that talk about equipment and technology. There are a few dental marketers like me that talk about ways to get more patients and achieve financial practice goals, and then there are quite a few that discuss the trade shows and CE opportunities as well.

There are also some dentists that don't talk about dentistry at all. They discuss tennis, or soccer, or their favorite bands, and thats great too.

I think the key would be to get started and follow me http://twitter.com/dentalmarketing and then look at the people that follow me, and that I follow to see who you want to interact with.

Hello James

I watched a few of your videos and I am considering joining twitter to network with friends and industry professionals. Because I am new to the social networking arena, I am wondering if you have any idea how many dentists are using this tool for networking purposes. I would like to connect with my peers to discuss products, techniques, tradeshows, continuing education courses, technology and other types of innovative practice ideas. Is this going on at all on twitter? Or will I be all alone if I sign up with this intention? I figure this is what you've been doing for a few years so you probably have a good idea of what is going on!
